15) Committee Reports
a) Executive Committee –
Our chairman, Dr. Wecht, hosted the first conference call meeting of the
twelve-person Executive Committee in March and officially formalized CAPA as a
not-for-profit Political Action Committee.
b) Public Relations – Media held a conference
call and made a presentation at the Left
Forum in New York; set up social media sites on the internet, compiled this
newsletter and is preparing for conferences in New Orleans, Dallas and
Australia, Sunshine Week in March and a Congressional Briefing on the JFK Act
in DC in the spring.
c) Legal – Is preparing official CAPA 501.3c tax
status papers and is filing a number of FOIA requests under the CAPA name and
preparing to support researchers in filing FOIA requests, appeals and civil
suits. The CAPA legal committee met via conference call on July 24 and
decided to form a special team to assist those with outstanding FOIA requests
and on-going appeals, especially Jim Lesar and the AARC. They also decided to
explore other legal leads including Congressional Briefings, Congressional
hearings on the JFK Act, a grand jury petition and, especially, a Texas Court
of Inquiry – their first task that will be pursued in consultation with Texas
attorneys. While getting the JFK case officially reopened is considered a long
shot, it won't be for lack of trying.
d) Membership – Fiscal – Fund raising – Will meet
soon to prepare membership drive and fund raising events for fall.
e) Advisory Board – is being apprised of all proposals and committee work before it is presented to the Executive Board for approval and will assist in promotions and fund raising events.
